Shropshire Youth Association is an independent, voluntary organisation open to all youth clubs.

THE ASSOCIATION SETS OUT TO:

Ø     Provide training for leaders and young people

Ø     Provide information and resources to groups, leaders and young people

Ø     Provide a broad county-wide programme of events and activities

Ø     Support the development of existing groups

Ø     Encourage the groups, leaders and members to play an active role in the Association and its activities

Ø     Help new groups to get started

Ø     Advocate on behalf of young people

OUR SUPPORT WORKERS, WHEN VISITING YOUR GROUP, CAN PROVIDE:

Ø     Information on SYA activities and events

Ø     Support and training for club leaders and management committees

Ø     General help and advice

Ø     Help with specific problems

Ø     Specific programme inputs

Ø     Information on Training opportunities

Ø     Advice and help with recruiting, selecting and training volunteers

Ø     Ideas and opportunities for increasing young people’s involvement

TRAINING

Shropshire Youth Association provides the following training: 

Ø     Initial Training Course – for leaders who want to develop their work.  This can lead to the County Part-time Leader Training Course where volunteers can obtain a Certificate qualification.

Ø     Outdoor Association – training for club leaders in outdoor pursuits.

Ø     Craft Youth Workers’ Association – workshops and courses in art and craft activities.

Ø     A variety of workshops and short courses including First Aid and Food Hygiene.

OTHER SERVICES AVAILABLE TO AFFILIATED YOUTH GROUPS:

Ø     Insurance -  public liability insurance is an essential part of running a youth club.  This, and a wide range of other policies, is available through BJK Insurance, who can be contacted at 2^nd Floor, Devonshire House, Riverside Road, Pottington Business Park, Barnstaple, EX31 1QN

Ø     The SYA Newsletter ‘Chatterbox’ is sent out to affiliated groups six times each year.

Ø     A range of leaflets provides help and advice on a number of matters relating to working with young people.

Ø     An equipment loan and delivery/collection service is available.  Please contact the office for a list of items which can be borrowed.  This service is run by the County Youth Service.

Ø     Mini bus hire is available at reduced rates

Ø     We can purchase equipment on behalf of clubs and pass on any discounts obtained.

Ø     We can provide help and advice on making grant applications

Ø     We provide three information packs:

Policies and Practice: All the guidelines and policy statements required for good practice and insurance cover

         Leaders Resources: Lots of ideas for programming and fundraising

         produced for Youth Leaders by a Youth Leader       

         Employing full or part-time staff:  Everything you need to consider

         when employing staff (full or part-time) including supervision and

         appraisal and grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures.
